Lets talk about the Android Mobile Platform
Android is an operating system for mobile devices such as mobile phones, tablet computers and netbooks. Android is now developed by Google and is formed upon the Linux kernel and GNU software. Android OS was initially developed by Android Inc., a company which was later purchased by Google. Unit sales for Android OS smart phones ranked number 1 among all smart phone OS handsets sold in the United States in the 2nd quarter of 2010, with 33% of the market. BlackBerry OS is 2nd with 28%, and iOS is in 3rd position with 22% of the smart phone market.
Android benefits from having a large community of smart phone developers writing application programs (“the apps”) that extend the functionality of these amazing devices. There are around 70,000 apps available for Android with around 100,000 have been submitted in total, which makes Andriod the 2nd most popular mobile development platfrom after the IPhone. Here at The App Developers WE write managed code in the Java language, controlling the device via Google-developed Java libraries.
The unveiling of the Android distribution on the 5th of November 2007 was announced with the founding of the Open Handset Alliance, which is a consortium of 71 hardware, software, and telecom businesses devoted to advancing open standards for mobile devices.
